Job Title: AI Engineer
Job Location: Houston, TX
Duration: 6+ Months
We are currently seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join the Big Data Services department on a contract basis. As part of the Data Science team, the AI Engineer will work closely with the Data Engineering team and business functions to solve real-world oil and gas midstream problems using Generative AI foundation models.
Responsibilities include:
Design and implement applications using LLMs and foundation models (e.g., GPT-4, Claude, DALL-E)
Develop sophisticated prompting strategies and chain-of-thought reasoning systems
Create APIs and interfaces to connect AI models with existing applications
Build RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) systems for domain-specific applications
Ensure responsible AI usage, including safety measures and ethical considerations
Optimize model performance and costs through efficient prompt design and caching strategies
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
Experience with AI platforms and APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
Strong programming skills, especially Python
Familiarity with AI frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex)
Understanding of vector databases and embedding technologies
Knowledge of RAG architectures and prompt engineering
Experience with web development and API integration
Understanding of AI safety and ethical considerations
Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment
Ability to communicate insights and approaches in a simple, actionable manner
Ability to work independently and with team members from different backgrounds
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Nice to have:
Experience with fine-tuning and model evaluation
Knowledge of semantic search and vector similarity
Familiarity with AI orchestration platforms
Understanding of token optimization and cost management
Experience with multimodal AI applications
Experience building solutions with AI agents
Experience building AI solutions on AWS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
Relevant certifications in AI/LLM development
