Founding Electrical Engineer - Aerospace Startup El Segundo, CA (onsite 5 days/week, including 15% travel to subsidiary offices) US Citizenship is required The company's develops innovative products in the aerospace industry (mostly commercial, some defense). The company has raised a very large round of series A Funding from top VCs. The company has about 10 employees and 4 engineers. It has also acquired a 40 person company. It is growing rapidly. The company seeks candidates who can work autonomously and are seeking a fast-paced, hardworking culture. Typical work hours are 50 hours/week, but some weeks are 60-80 hours. In this position, you would be owning the company's electrical design, analysis, and testing for mission-critical hardware. The company will pay up to $250k plus equity which could be very lucrative. Job Responsibilities: - Designing, prototyping, and qualifying electrical hardware. - Designing electrical hardware for the future of aerospace. - Taking system requirements and owning schematic creation, component selection, de-rating, and PCBA layout. - Working on human machine interface components like electromechanical switches, panels, and displays. - Developing bring-up and validation plans for new hardware, including bench testing, functional checks, and environmental qualification to meet aerospace regulations. - Working with customers and internal engineers to define requirements, identify constraints, and translate them into robust electrical architectures. - Troubleshooting circuit failures and revise designs to improve margin, simplify manufacturing, or address integration issues. - Documenting designs in accordance with internal standards and support traceability for customer qualification. - Working with technicians and manufacturing teams to verify builds and resolve issues in production. - Improving legacy products for performance and manufacturability. - Redesigning existing hardware using schematics, datasheets, and physical teardown. - Rethinking electrical systems to improve performance, reduce cost, or eliminate obsolete parts. - Interfacing with vendors and contract manufacturers to qualify alternative parts or fabricationprocesses. - Supporting test and production engineering to diagnose build issues and implement corrective actions. - Making revisions to documentation and test procedures as components are updated and improved. - Assisting with test development for electrical hardware. - Designing electrical test beds that functionally test the hardware you designed. - Working with test engineering to create electrical test hardware that is capable of withstanding environmental testing for both qualification and acceptance testing. - Writing test software to interact and functionally test your designed hardware. - Working with the test department (technicians and test engineering/specialists) to make your acceptance test as production friendly as possible. - Linking between firmware and software needs of hardware. - Understanding the firmware and software requirements of the designed electrical hardware. - Performing basic troubleshooting of existing firmware and hardware of existing designs. - Assisting with solving specific firmware and software solutions for new designed hardware. Qualifications: - Experience in aerospace, automotive, chemical, or other high-reliability applications. - Extremely curious and hands-on; driven to understand how things work and how to make them better. - Skilled in circuit design, simulation, and analysis across analog, digital, and power domains. - Comfortable with hands-on debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers. - Proficient with modern electrical CAD tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad) and version control systems. - Strong communication skills with the ability to write clear documentation and work cross-functionally with speed. Nice to have: - Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD, or other qualification and certification frameworks. - Ability to writ your own aerospace grade firmware rapidly for your own designs.
