We need to utilize modern methods to capture and analyse data, ensuring that we can track where our pallets are, what they’re being used for and ensuring they return to the pool to be reused in the future. We need to ensure what we build not only works for the now, but for the future as well. SENIOR FIRMWARE TEST ENGINEER POSITION PURPOSE Responsible for designing and executing test plans, conducting performance and interoperability tests, and analysing the results to identify and troubleshoot issues related to cellular and RF networking technologies. This person possesses a deep understanding of cellular protocols (such as GSM, LTE, NB IoT, CatM), wireless standards, and RF principles. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate hardware and software components, verify network functionalities, and optimize system performance. Their expertise ensures the delivery of robust and efficient wireless solutions while adhering to industry standards and best practices. SCOPE MAJOR / KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES • Design, develop, document, and test I/O communications and device drivers. • Work closely with firmware developers to ensure delivery of quality products in a timely manner. • Develop and execute formal test plans/scripts. • Contribute to the development of product design specifications including functional requirements, use cases, detailed design, interface and test plans. • Participate in the specification and selection of embedded hardware platforms. Contribute to design verification process and procedures. • Contribute to design and code review, product, and system-level test efforts. • Understand industry standard interfaces where required. • Test tracking and sensor telemetry real-time applications within constraints of small, low-power systems operating in a challenging environment using Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) or Cellular IoT networks • If needed, develop test script development for automating the test process. MEASURES • Contribute directly toward firmware testing • Manage development workflow and schedules CHALLENGES / PROBLEM SOLVING • Collaborating with stakeholders unfamiliar with product development methodologies including agile, design thinking, and digital product management • Balancing the needs and milestones of individual products against ensuring a balanced portfolio that follows the product lifecycle • Working in a truly global role across different time zones and cultures • Working in a new digital organisation that is still growing and forming, so handling ambiguity is key to the role. • Responsible for defining and verifying end-to-end system requirements and developing hardware including integration with the cloud platforms by closely working with consultants, vendors, and contract manufacturers. • Troubleshoot technical issues during bring up, production and operations. KEY C0NTACTS Internal: Agile PMO lead, Digital strategy and execution lead, Operation Team, Product owner(s), SW Development Team External: Contract Manufacturer, Component Supplier, Third party vendor QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 2+ years of experience in related fields. • MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred with 1+ years of experience. Desirable Qualifications : EXPERIENCE • Experience on embedded Software testing. • Hands on experience in: o Systems Programming, Operating Systems, RTOS, mbed o Networking Protocols – TCP/IP, UDP, MQTT, CoAP, SNTP o Wi-Fi, BLE, and Cellular networks o Handling sensors (accelerometers, gyro, GPS, humidity, temperature) and actuators. o Inter chip communication protocols: I2C, SPI, USART • Testing experience in interfacing to serial ports, A/D and D/A converters, RAM/Flash memories, and other digital electronics • Testing experience with ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers. • Experience with hardware debug tools / protocol analysers / Oscilloscopes / Multi-meters/etc. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE • Creative, motivated, driven. Has an excellent work ethic and passion to succeed • Excellent communications and cross-functional skills • Ability to multi-task, manage time effectively and handle tight deadlines • Ability and desire to learn new skills • Can work in a close team environment / strong team player The salary range for this position is $165,000 to $190,000 / year. Salary ranges provided take into account a wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications, geographic differentials and other business and organizational needs. Therefore, actual amounts offered may be higher or lower than the range provided.
