Product Engineer – DDS & Precision Spring (HDD Suspension, HDD Cover)
Overview
Responsible for providing engineering support for key customer accounts in DDS and Precision Spring products. Acts as a primary contact for senior-level technical managers and engineers during product development and program execution.
Primary Responsibilities
Collaborate with customers and internal teams on product and process development for new products and technologies. Provide design proposals, manufacturing feedback, reliability testing, supplier development, competitive analysis, and product qualification reviews. Serve as main customer contact throughout all phases of product programs, building strong relationships and removing roadblocks. Participate in advanced technology and roadmap discussions to meet long-term design goals. Act as liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and customers for issue resolution, quality improvements, and requirement interpretation. Provide “voice of the customer” feedback for performance and technology reviews. Support international collaboration, including hosting visiting engineers and accompanying customers on overseas plant tours and training.
Competencies
Minimum 3 years in disc drive or related industries; sensor design or manufacturing experience preferred. Strong analytical, project management, and time management skills. Effective verbal and written communication of complex technical information. Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage multiple projects. Willingness to research new technologies in related fields such as semiconductors, micro-processing equipment, and memory technologies.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics (Master’s preferred). 3+ years relevant experience in data storage or sensor industries. Training in project management, finite element analysis, problem-solving (8D), failure analysis, reliability testing, DOE, etc. Proficiency in engineering software: SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, MATLAB, Minitab, JMP, ANSYS, etc.
Physical & Travel Requirements
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and move safely within plant environments. Domestic travel once per quarter; international travel twice annually (approx. 15% total travel).
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 annually Benefits: 401(k) with matching, health/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, flexible schedule Schedule: Full-time, 8-hour shift, Monday–Friday
