Position Summary The Facility Operations Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, daily management, and operational excellence of the practice facility. This role ensures the facility operates at the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and professionalism that support the high-demands of the NHL team spaces, ice and amenities, as well as the high-impact demands of community programming and general building operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate brings a blend of ice-rink technical expertise, leadership acumen, customer service mentality and a passion for sports & office facility management. The Kraken Community Iceplex is a 3-sheet facility that houses the NHL Team and Hockey Operations, the Kraken Executive and Administrative Office, a Restaurant and tenants operating a coffee shop, medical clinic and retail store. The facility is open 7-days a week from 6am – past midnight. Community programming includes youth hockey, adult hockey, figure skating, public skate and drop-in hockey, private events & parties and fan appreciation and Kraken practice viewing. Key Responsibilities Facility Operations & Maintenance Oversee all aspects of facility including ice maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security systems, mechanical systems, shipping & receiving overall building scheduled maintenance projects and general upkeep across community, restaurant, offices and team operations spaces. Ensure optimal ice conditions for NHL-level training and events. Manage preventative maintenance schedules and emergency repairs. Coordinate with operational vendors, contractors, and service providers for all venue logistics including city services, deliveries and with landlord. Oversee contract work for building security personnel, overnight housekeeping and occasional day-time porter services. Manage building operations invoices, compliance certificates, budget and facility & equipment related project forecasting Team & Staff Management Lead, train, and supervise operations staff including ice technicians, maintenance personnel and other department staff. Develop staffing plans, training, schedules and budget to ensure 24/7 operational readiness. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, customer service and continuous improvement. Compliance & Safety Maintain compliance with NHL, OSHA, ADA, and local regulatory standards. Implement and enforce safety protocols and emergency response procedures. Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments. Facility Projects Oversee construction, renovation and capital projects Budget forecasting & project planning for short and long-term building & equipment maintenance, upgrades and redevelopments Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Engineering, or related field. 7+ years of experience in community facility operations, preferably in an ice arena environment. Experience opening new facilities. Strong knowledge of ice-making systems, building automation, and mechanical systems. Proven leadership, team management and cross team collaboration experience. Adaptable with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first Strong verbal and written communication skills + Word, Excel, PowerPoint and applicable standard applications. Understanding & experience with facility management software – ideally Dash by DaySmart. Preferred Certifications Certified Ice Technician (CIT) or equivalent OSHA Safety Certification First Aid/CPR/AED Certification Building Management certifications such as -- Certified Manager of Maintenance/Properties (CMM/CMP), Building Operator Certification (BOC), Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) or Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA) designations Total Rewards Package: Compensation:
In accordance with Washington's Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the salary range for this role is $125,000 - $165,000. The full salary band for this level is $110,000 - $165,000.
