Job Purpose:
This position is for an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join the Data Management team. In this role, the employee is responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, security, and scalability of the Microsoft SQL Server environments. Working closely with the Director of Data Management and IT teams, the employee will oversee daily operations, optimize database systems, and support key initiatives including high availability, replication, and automation.

Essential Job Functions: Engage in WFG company culture that emphasizes engagement in our 4 Cs Administer, maintain, and support multiple Microsoft SQL Server instances across development, test, and production environments Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances and related services Design, implement, and manage robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions Monitor and optimize system performance using built-in and third-party tools (e.g., SQL Profiler, Extended Events, Query Store) Maintain and optimize database maintenance plans (backups, index tuning, statistics updates) Analyze and tune T-SQL queries and stored procedures for performance Collaborate with developers to review and optimize database access patterns Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime Manage and implement replication (transactional, snapshot, merge) and other data distribution strategies Document system configurations, processes, and standards Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for deployments and critical incidents Proactively identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in SQL Server versions 2016 and newer Strong knowledge of backup/recovery best practices, index tuning, and query optimization Experience with SQL Server Replication, Database Mirroring, Always On Availability Groups, or Log Shipping Skilled in scripting and automation using T-SQL, PowerShell, or equivalent tools Solid understanding of database security, auditing, and compliance practices Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Redgate SQL Monitor, SolarWinds DPA, or SentryOne Experience with database deployments and CI/CD pipelines is a plus Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams. Strong oral and written communications skills. Basic Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in a production environment Preferred Qualifications Exposure to cloud-based database services (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances) Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC), Change Tracking, or ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory) Familiarity with DevOps practices for database development and deployment Knowledge of other RDBMS or NoSQL systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. PhysicalRequirements/ADA: No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; travel or other inconveniences have advance notice; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
