Summary

We are looking for an extraordinary optical engineer to join a team that is making a big difference in the future of Apple. A successful candidate will not only need to develop new technologies and architect novel optical modules, but also educate a broad audience of people at Apple about their benefits and tradeoffs. The team features a broad engineering roster including optical engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists, which presents a unique opportunity to influence and learn from a diverse group of experts. Key Qualifications

Capable of prototyping, conducting design of experiments, and analytical data processing Prior experience with executing failure analysis, building optical measurement setups, and performing hands-on measurements, preferably for imaging optics applications Description

Use geometrical optics or wave-optics simulation tools to architect new optical modules and to assess their expected performance and limitations Identify and implement optical metrics and specifications to deliver performance that matter to customer perception Identify novel characterization techniques to measure key performance metrics of complex and novel optical modules Influence product-level decisions using tools and methods such as simulation, prototyping and lab characterization Build custom metrology hardware and perform hands-on measurements in the lab Work with suppliers to develop optical modules, bring up optical test platforms, and perform statistical analysis of data to determine optical performance and quality Visit suppliers to support engineering builds, and help with failure analysis activities Education & Experience

M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Sciences or EE Additional Requirements

Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing domestic and international vendors 10+ years of industry experience in related fields Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700 and $300,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
