As a Wireless Firmware Engineer on the physical design team, you will be at the center of the embedded 5G/4G/multimode cellular firmware effort within a silicon design group responsible for designing and productizing state-of-the-art cellular SoCs. This position requires someone comfortable with all aspects of embedded software development, who thrives in a dynamic cross-functional organization, is not afraid to debate ideas openly, and is flexible enough to shift on constantly evolving requirements. Key Qualifications
BS and 3+ years of relevant industry experience. Experience with bare-metal and RTOS based data communications. Understanding of communication protocols (Cellular, Low-Power Wireless, TCP/IP). Deep understanding of software engineering principles and core computer science fundamentals. Fundamental facility with C and C++, compilers, build and source code control tools. Significant experience with memory constrained Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and concurrent programming. Solid understanding of computer architecture with particular emphasis on the HW/SW interfaces of high-speed communication subsystems. Experience with silicon prototyping, emulation systems, and virtual platforms. Proficiency debugging embedded software systems. Familiarity with UARTs, JTAG, and oscilloscopes. Some mainstream OS application level development and Python or Perl scripting experience. Description
- Design interfaces and tools which enable the physical layer firmware development. - Lead others toward feature delivery and support. - Specify, design, and implement the firmware frameworks, virtual environments, debug tools, and test harnesses for an innovative mobile wireless communications system. - Implement embedded bare-metal drivers and frameworks with very tight time, latency, and energy budgets. - Define and implement Physical Layer interfaces and integrate with higher layers in the protocol stack. - Work with silicon designers to define processor, bus, DMA, accelerator, and memory subsystems. - Assist in the development of pre-silicon emulation systems/virtual platforms and use them for pre-silicon FW design and HW verification. - Evaluate and implement innovative tools for build, formal verification, and test. Build on top of existing Continuous Integration and test automation infrastructure. Help define and drive the code/test/documentation auto-generation tooling. - Define methodologies and standard processes. Education & Experience

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900 and $256,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
