Experience in open heart surgery, including CABG, AVR, and MVR is essential. Candidates with prior CV surgery and vascular surgery experience within the last year will be preferred. Typical procedures performed include epidural management and chest tube management. Candidates must be skilled in tube feedings and IV medication management. Common medications managed include phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine. Best personality fit for the unit is a team player who enjoys a fast-paced environment and is flexible. Floating may be required to various units as needed. The unit has 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds with approximately 100 staff members. Patient ratios are typically 1:5 for RNs and 1:13 for patient care technicians. Equipment includes Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various lifts. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Candidates without the required skills will not be considered for the role. Minimum weekend shift requirement is six weekend shifts within a six-week schedule period. Flexibility to work during holidays is necessary.
