Mesa seeks a senior level power systems engineer with 8-10 years of experience performing transmission power system protection studies and relay settings including but not limited to:
Development of relay protection schemes using microprocessor-based relays to protect transmission and distribution assets.
Perform protective device coordination for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors.
Develop logic settings to support desired relay schemes.
Perform area protective device coordination studies.
Perform transmission level impact and feasibility studies.
Load Flow Studies
Short Circuit Studies
Insulation Coordination
Arc Flash Studies
Responsibilities:
Preparing reports documenting the process and results of the studies performed
Performing reviews of studies performed by others and provide constructive feedback
Working with clients to assist them in meeting their compliance requirements
Mentoring less experienced associates to help them progress
Utilizing good verbal and written communication skills with team members and clients
Working with the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer to define project objectives, prepare design estimates, and define project requirements and design approaches for large or complex projects.
Capable of acting as Lead Engineer on complex studies which require interfacing with the client, other engineering firms, and other departments within Mesa. This includes the identification of study input requirements and coordinating the collection of the input information and data.
Conceptualizing the initial design approach for a major phase of a large project or have overall responsibility for the engineering work on a routine project.
Exercising judgment in the independent evaluation selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Preparing and verifying calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application specific software as required.
Managing personal task assignments, and for designated team members to ensure adherence to scope, schedule and budget.
Monitoring project execution milestones and schedules to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
Performing technical and coordination checking/ review of deliverables and other project or study documents.
Accepting responsibility for technical adequacy of deliverables designed or checked deliverables
This is a virtual position in the United States where you will work from your personal residence in a distraction free space. We are currently hiring/performing work in: any US state. Preference will go to candidates in the Denver Metro Area that are open to a hybrid schedule.
The successful candidate will be responsible for both relay settings and studies associated with substation P&C design projects supporting large electric utility clients as well as renewable projects. Primarily, the renewable projects are connecting utility scale solar farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and large wind farms to the connecting utility through substations.

Annual salary range:
$98,198-$145,749
The expected compensation is a range determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate, internal equity, work location, and hiring department’s fiscal resources.
