SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Stretcher Van Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients on stretchers and in wheelchairs to and from healthcare facilities, residences, and other locations. This role requires dual qualification as a Wheelchair Van Driver and adherence to all safety and patient handling procedures.
Responsibilities: Safely operate a stretcher van or wheelchair van in compliance with all traffic laws and company policies. Assist patients in safely entering and exiting the vehicle, including proper use of stretcher loading systems and securement devices. Provide safe transport for patients to and from healthcare facilities, residences, and other destinations. Ensure all stretcher and wheelchair securement and safety equipment is properly used and maintained. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle. Maintain accurate trip logs and required documentation. Provide a high level of customer service to patients, families, and facility staff. Communicate any delays, incidents, or safety concerns to dispatch and management. Assist with patient movement, including lifting, pushing, rolling, and sliding as necessary. Physical Requirements:

Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 180 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds with assistance from others. Ability to push and pull a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to sit, stand, and remain in continuous control of a vehicle and/or patient compartment for long periods (3+ hours) without unscheduled stops. Ability to perceive and respond to auditory and visual cues necessary for safe patient transport, vehicle operation, and communication. Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods necessary for safe patient and crew transport. Ability to safely assist with patient movement, including lifting, dragging, hoisting, rolling, sliding, and carrying, using proper body mechanics and patient-handling equipment. Ability to successfully pass the Physical Agility Test and any periodic or post-incident fitness-for-duty evaluations required to verify the ability to perform essential job functions. Good physical stamina, endurance, and overall body condition, not adversely affected by walking, standing, lifting, carrying, and balancing as required by the position. Other Responsibilities:
Participate in community programs to maintain Excelsior Ambulance Service's image and establish strong community relations. Follow all Excelsior Ambulance Service safety procedures, including proper use of patient-handling equipment and team lifting techniques. Immediately report any injury, illness, or condition - whether work-related or not - that may affect the ability to safely perform essential job functions. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and operational protocols. Minimum Required Qualifications:
At least 21 years of age State Driver's License Driving record in compliance with company policy Pass Physical Agility Test Some work experience, preferably in healthcare
