**This position may be eligible for remote work for up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program. ** The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) protects and enhances the daily economic lives of New Yorkers to create thriving communities. DCWP is seeking a Director of Media Relations for DCWP's External Affairs (EA) Division. The Director of Media Relations will develop and implement the press strategy in collaboration with (EA) leadership; serve as a senior agency spokesperson, and manage daily press operations, including managing the press office. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to: Develop and implement the press strategy; Research and cultivate relationships with reporters and editors. Serve as a senior agency spokesperson and manage daily press operations; Supervise the agency press office; Strategize on proactively generating coverage, pitching to targeted outlets, and coordinating press conferences and interviews, and responding to incoming news media requests on deadline, including drafting statements, researching background information, and coordinating messaging with relevant staff. Draft, edit, review and finalize press materials (press advisories and releases, op-eds, statements, letters to the editor, and other external communications), ensuring that they are clear, accurate, engaging, timely and newsworthy. Prepare spokespeople and staff for interviews with media outlets to ensure accuracy of information and delivery of key messages. Work closely with the press staff of sister agencies, elected officials, community-based organizations, advocacy groups, and business groups, to plan and execute events of different types, including roundtables, press conferences, and panel discussions. Other duties as needed. Qualifications: 1. A baccalaureate degree awarded upon completion of a four-year course in an accredited college or university and four (4) years of satisfactory full-time experience in public relations, journalism or editorial work, of which two (2) years shall have been in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity in public relations and publicity; or 2. A satisfactory equivalent.
