Role Overview
We are seeking ahands-on, results-driven Head of Credit to lead our credit function end-to-end—from credit policy design to deal-level approval and portfolio risk management. This role isnot advisory-only ; you will be deeply involved inreviewing deals, managing underwriters, engaging with capital partners , and ensuring every loan we originate meets our risk-return objectives.
You will work closely with the CEO, COO, and Capital Markets team to align credit strategies with market opportunities, capital partner requirements, and YouLand’s growth goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintaincredit policies, underwriting guidelines, and risk frameworks that align with capital market requirements.
- Adjust credit box proactively based on market trends, partner appetite, and portfolio performance.
Deal Review & Approval
- Personally review high-value or complex deals, making final credit approval/rejection decisions.
- Ensure underwriting quality, risk assessments, and capital partner criteria are met on every funded loan.
Capital Markets Collaboration
- Serve as thecredit liaison with capital partners, presenting loan packages, defending credit decisions, and aligning product offerings with partner investment mandates.
- Provide feedback to the capital markets team to refine sourcing and deal structuring.
- Lead and mentor underwriters, credit analysts, and processing staff.
- Implement training programs to elevate team skill sets in underwriting, risk assessment, and compliance.
- Monitor loan performance metrics (delinquencies, defaults, prepayments) and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct periodic portfolio stress tests and scenario analysis.
Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with sales and operations topre-screen deals and ensure alignment between business development and credit capacity.
- Support product development by advising on risk/return trade-offs for new loan products.
QualificationsMust-Have
- 7+ years in credit risk, underwriting, or portfolio management inreal estate lending, mortgage banking, or private credit .
- Proven track record ofleading a credit team andscaling underwriting operations .
- Experience interfacing with capital markets/institutional investors.
- Strong understanding ofbridge loans, construction loans, fix-and-flip financing , and real estate collateral analysis.
- Comfortablerolling up your sleeves —able to lead strategically while executing operationally.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in bothbanking andnon-bank/private lending environments.
- Familiarity with secondary market loan sales.
- Tech-savvy; ability to adapt credit processes to digital lending platforms.
