The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the examination and treatment of patients under the guidance of an urgent care provider. Key responsibilities include managing the check-in and registration process, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and documenting information accurately on patient charts. Additionally, you may be required to draw blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, as well as prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.

Hourly Rate: $17.50 - $25.50

Bonus Eligible: Up to $600/month

Job Requirements

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma required
    • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
  • Work Experience:
    • Medical Assistant experience preferred
    • Front Desk experience preferred
  • Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire, obtained through American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
    • One of the following certifications required at hire:
      • CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (verified through NHA)
      • CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (verified through AAMA)
      • RMA - Registered Medical Assistant (verified through AMT)
      • NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (verified through NCCT)
      • NRCMA - Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (verified through National Association for Health Professionals)
  • In lieu of an approved MA Certification, the following certifications will also be accepted at time of hire:
    • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, LPN, or RN
    • EMT - Emergency Medical Technician (verified through National Registry)
    • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct patient registration, securing necessary paperwork and verifying insurance and patient eligibility.
  • Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments.
  • Coordinate provider referrals to specialists.
  • Answer patient inquiries regarding their care and provide regular updates on their status.
  • Prepare patients for examination, confirming visit purpose and recording medical history.
  • Conduct preliminary physical tests for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provider.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG) and relay information to providers.
  • Maintain supply inventory levels and ensure exam rooms, front desk, and reception areas are well-stocked.
  • Organize and maintain medical records and scan charts as necessary.
  • Manage phone calls and sort daily postal correspondence.
  • Ensure reception area is welcoming and well-maintained.
  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out and securing the facility.
  • Follow operating instructions to perform daily controls and calibration of equipment, maintain quality assurance logs, and submit repair tickets as needed.
  • Complete all other assigned duties.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong foundation in basic medical assistant duties.
  • Proficiency in typing and basic computer skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to participate in team-oriented environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to interact and treat all individuals with fairness, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
