Network Engineer – Access Networks
on our Network Engineering Services team in our
Lubbock, TX, Charlotte, NC or Huntsville, AL office , where you'll play a critical role in advancing broadband and telecommunications initiatives that expand connectivity and drive digital inclusion—while advancing your career within a mission-driven, growth-focused organization.
As a Network Engineer focused on Access networks, you will assist JSI’s clients with design, implementation and trouble shooting. Responsibilities & Duties
Analyzing and designing Fiber-To-The-Premise (FTTP) access networks for ISPs. Implementing network designs for access networks and configuring equipment/related systems. Performing network upgrades and subscriber migrations. Configuring and testing Ethernet circuits. Directly working with ISPs to troubleshoot issues in access network existing networks. Documenting and diagramming networks, relevant processes, and troubleshooting steps. Communicating technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Keeping up with industry developments, new technologies, and best practices. Improving knowledge and expertise through independent research, practice, and industry-accepted certifications.
Qualifications
Education:
Computer/Management Information Systems, Engineering, or similar bachelor’s degrees. Experience:
Requires 3-5 years’ experience in operating, troubleshooting, and/or designing telecommunication FTTP access networks. Hands-on experience with access equipment from vendors like Adtran, Calix, Nokia, DZS, and related element management systems. Experience with DSLAMs and multi-service access platforms is a plus. Network certification is considered a plus. Skills:
Proficiency with FTTP GPON/XGS-PON/NG-PON2 and Active Ethernet technologies. Understanding of networking concepts and IP networks. Understanding of Carrier Ethernet and MEF concepts. Proficiency with standard operations of Windows-based computers and Office product suite. Good oral and written communication. Ability to work as part of a team. Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to work on multiple projects. Attention to detail and good judgment. Desire to learn and apply what you learn immediately.
