Overview Work on an assigned vessel on a regular schedule and be available to assist engineering and operations as scheduled. Work as directed by the Port Engineer. Responsibilities Schedule long-term maintenance of tugs and barges in coordination with the Sr. Port Engineer. Communicate with the Sr. Port Engineer to establish priorities and ensure availability of personnel, equipment, and resources. Keep detailed records of maintenance performed and ensure vessels properly record maintenance activities. Perform inspections of vessels for repair, maintenance standards, and regulatory compliance, including bi-annual engineering inspections. Assist Port Engineers in compiling and prioritizing worklists for routine and major maintenance, including dry dock periods. Maintain clear communication with the Sr. Port Engineer regarding all work performed on vessels and notify immediately of any issues affecting operations. Perform emergency repairs as required. Collaborate on special projects to improve workflow and engineering processes. Perform related duties as assigned by the Senior Port Engineer. Act as liaison between vessel engineers and OTB management. Assist in evaluating and training engineers within the fleet. Qualifications Experience with maintenance of tugs and barges. Minimum two (2) years of experience on tugs, tankers, oil barges, or equivalent military experience. Four (4) years of progressively responsible maritime industry experience preferred. US Coast Guard license as DDE Unlimited or higher on a Merchant Mariner's Document strongly preferred. Knowledge of oil transportation and the marine industry preferred. Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment. Ability to repair marine equipment on-site under adverse conditions. Strong interpersonal skills, including courtesy, tact, and good judgment. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work well with office staff and vessel crew. Physical fitness to board barges and tugs at sea and in port. Familiarity with tank barge operations, ship operations, and terminal/refinery operations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Valid state driver's license. Valid TWIC or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment. Basic computer skills (Word and Excel), copier, and fax machine use. First Aid / CPR training preferred. Job Conditions and Environment Ability to make decisions and give directions to ensure prompt service delivery. Work aboard boats and barges using pike poles, heavy lines, winches, and mechanical tools for repairs. Regularly board tugs, barges, and ships at dock or anchor in all weather conditions and hours. Expected Hours of Work Equal time schedule. This is an "At Sea" position; vessel and schedule are determined by the Port Engineer. Available 24/7 for communication regarding vessel maintenance, repair, and operations.
