Job Description As the principal financial officer of the College, the Head of Finance is selected and appointed by the President of the College with the approval of the Board of Trustees. The Head of Finance reports to the President and works closely with the Board of Trustees. The Head of Finance provides oversight and management of the financial affairs of the College, keeping the President fully informed of the status of such affairs and updating other pertinent staff as required and directed by the President. It is essential that the Head of Finance collaborates effectively with the College's staff to achieve the College's operational functions, goals, and mission. Major Responsibilities: Protect and control the College's assets. Work with the President and the Board of Trustees to construct, revise, and execute the College's budget, long-range, and strategic plans. Supervise the accounting, finance, HR, and financial planning functions. Develop and implement accounting policies, coordinate related systems and procedures, and prepare operational and financial reports, including interim and year-end financial statements. Maintain the College's chart of accounts and keep records of all transactions and assets. Ensure proper internal controls are in place and functioning effectively. Compare monthly and year-to-date performance with plans and budgets, and interpret these comparisons during monthly Management Committee meetings for the President and designated staff, as well as for the Board of Trustees as directed. Coordinate improvements and changes in automated financial aid systems and assist with the College's management information systems. Manage cash flows and oversee investments. Supervise the preparation of financial reports for government agencies. Oversee the College's purchasing function. Direct the College's payroll operations. Work Specifications: Collaborate with external auditors to prepare and complete the annual audit. Ensure compliance of grant disbursements with grant documents. Undertake special projects and analyses for capital projects to aid decision-making. Coordinate financial matters between the College and outside third parties. Perform other duties as delegated by the President. Possess a Master's Degree in Finance or a related business field, or equivalent experience. Have a minimum of six to eight years of progressive experience in a senior accounting role, preferably at a not-for-profit educational institution. Demonstrate experience with fund accounting financial systems. Ability to analyze concepts, past discrepancies, trends, and relationships, and apply this knowledge to advance the College's mission.
