- Houston, Texas / San Antonio, TX Full-time Role Our Staff Counsel organization is currently seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join our dynamic and growing team in the San Antonio / Austin, Texas area. This is a full-time, exempt role. POSITION OVERVIEW : Independently investigates and manages cases of moderate exposure and complexity in civil litigation from inception until conclusion through dismissal, settlement, or trial. Works with adjusters and clients to resolve claims efficiently and effectively. Serves as a mentor to developing attorneys. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL : Meet with clients and claims professionals to resolve cases cost-effectively Conduct pre-trials, mediations, arbitrations, or other legal activities required May independently conduct trials Advise claim professionals on legal file evaluations Provide legal advice to clients and claim professionals as needed Negotiate settlements as directed Participate in roundtables WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY : Insurance defense jury trial experience preferred Valid driver's license, acceptable MVR, and ability to maintain confidentiality Admitted to the bar and licensed to practice law in Texas Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, adjusters, claims professionals, and support staff Computer literacy, including MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and email/calendar management Strong advocacy skills for moderately complex cases Effective negotiation skills to influence claim outcomes Excellent communication skills, capable of translating legal language into layman's terms Decisiveness in moderate to complex situations Strong organizational skills for prioritizing work and information management Proficiency in legal research and investigation Knowledge of courtroom procedures and decorum Proactive approach to career development and skill maintenance Ability to effectively present evidence and legal arguments in court Knowledge of property and casualty insurance policies and trends Resilience and adaptability to unexpected challenges Willingness to mentor and teach others PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT : Proficiency with computers and standard office equipment Ability to sit and stand for extended periods Ability to work on-site as needed Willingness and ability to travel Availability to work beyond 40 hours per week if necessary Capability to work in a fast-paced, changing, or stressful environment Ability to operate a motor vehicle BENEFITS : We offer comprehensive benefits to support your health, financial security, and work-life balance, including: Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance 401(k) with company match Tuition reimbursement Company-paid holidays Flexible work arrangements Cultural Awareness Day in support of IDE On-site medical/wellness center (Worcester only)
