AUTOMATION ENGINEER POSITION SUMMARY: The

Automation Engineer

within the Production Engineering Group contributes to the implementation of automation systems and workflows to support the processing of samples in a clinical diagnostics laboratory environment. This individual collaborates with teams to implement and support solutions designed to optimize the performance and increase the efficiencies of the laboratory processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program and deploy liquid handling robots and work cells

Support production through troubleshooting liquid handling robots and work cells

Build rapport with end-users and engineering colleagues

Deploy, optimize, support, and test automation systems and related software tools

Complete documentation promptly using good documentation practices

Prepare User Requirements, Testing Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and related documentation

Perform functional testing and qualification

Additional responsibilities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS degree in Biomedical Engineering, a closely related scientific field, or equivalent

2+ years of laboratory automation engineering experience

Technical proficiency in automation, systems development, and integration for the life science industry, especially with robotics and liquid handling systems

Experience in computer programming

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills

Flexibility and self-initiative to support multiple automation projects

Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, lab automation providers, or clinical laboratories is highly desirable

The pay range is listed, and actual compensation depends on factors like skill set, experience, certifications, and location. In San Carlos, CA, the range is $112,000—$140,000 USD.
