Reports to: Board of Directors, Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington State (Association & Alliance) Location: Preferably based within the I-5 corridor (Seattle–Olympia), with regular in-state travel and periodic air travel throughout the United States. Position Summary: The Executive Director (ED) is the chief external ambassador for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington State, leading statewide efforts to advance the mission through strategic advocacy, high-level resource development, and relationship building with key government, corporate, and philanthropic partners. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will cultivate and steward partnerships that strengthen the collective impact of 16 independent Boys & Girls Club organizations across Washington. The ED will champion the case for collaboration, secure significant funding from both public and private sources, and position the Association & Alliance as a vital voice for youth development in Washington State. Key Responsibilities 1. Resource Development & Partnerships (Primary Focus) Develop and execute a statewide resource development strategy to secure and grow major investments from corporations, large foundations, and other private-sector partners. Cultivate, solicit, and steward six- and seven-figure commitments in collaboration with local Clubs. Design and negotiate complex, multi-club funding agreements that preserve local donor relationships while maximizing statewide impact. Identify and pursue innovative cause-marketing, sponsorship, and special-event opportunities. 2. Government Relations & Advocacy (Primary Focus) Lead state-level legislative strategy in partnership with the Government Relations Committee, contracted lobbyists, and BGCA government relations staff. Build relationships with legislators, agency leaders, and policy influencers to secure sustainable public funding for Clubs. Develop and implement grassroots engagement and education campaigns to mobilize local Clubs and their stakeholders. Serve as a visible, credible advocate for youth and family issues at the state level. 3. Statewide Leadership & Collaboration Convene and facilitate collaboration among member Club CEOs to identify shared priorities, coordinate collective initiatives, and promote cross-pollination of ideas. Act as a connector and problem-solver, balancing statewide goals with local needs. Represent the Association & Alliance to the media, community leaders, and partner organizations. 4. Board Engagement & Governance Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, providing strategic recommendations, clear communication, and timely updates. Support Board committees and assist in recruiting and onboarding new Board members. Maintain accurate records, reports, and meeting documentation. 5. Fiscal & Administrative Oversight (Limited Scope) Oversee budgeting, grant compliance, and pass-through funding distribution to member Clubs. Manage and report on all public and private grants, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of information. Supervise and support staff and contractors, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Qualifications: Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; equivalent experience will be considered. Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas: major gift fundraising, corporate/foundation relations, government relations/advocacy, or high-level external affairs. Demonstrated success in securing and managing significant investments from both public and private sources. Experience working with high-level elected officials, corporate leaders, and diverse stakeholder groups. Background in membership or federated nonprofit organizations preferred. Skills & Attributes Exceptional relationship builder with the ability to work effectively across sectors. Skilled negotiator, able to design and manage multi-party agreements. Strategic thinker with strong decision-making skills in complex, dynamic environments. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking. Comfortable working independently with limited staff support while managing multiple priorities. Adept at working with highly engaged, strong-willed boards. Commitment to equity, collaboration, and the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs. Compensation & Benefits: Salary range: $140,000–$170,000, commensurate with experience.
