Job Description
Develop a clear and demonstrable understanding of the "mission" and "role" of interscholastic athletics.
Develop and execute a plan to formally communicate the "mission and role" to players, parents, staff, and the public, at least seasonally (and informally at every opportunity).
Develop, model, and communicate policies for athletics conduct and language in the locker room, on the practice field, during travel, during competition, and at all other sponsored events.
Allow athletes to fairly compete for positions each season. Do not automatically base team selection on previous season or out-of-season activities.
Encourage athletes to develop skills and interests in other school and community activities.
Understand and communicate the relationship between interscholastic athletics and general education.
Teach respect for school authorities and contest officials through precept and example.
Support players in cases of adverse decisions and refrain from public criticism or comments to the media.
Teach players strict adherence to game rules and contest regulations.
Privately present any evidence of rule violations through proper school authorities.
Counteract rumors and unproven allegations of questionable practices by opponents.
Attend all required meetings and stay updated on relevant policies and rules.
Report scores and newsworthy information via calls or emails.
Complete reports to MCPS Central Office.
Ensure each student athlete meets TSSAA eligibility requirements, has a signed permission form, and is properly equipped.
Inventory, issue, and periodically check all equipment.
Provide a list of equipment and supplies to the Athletic Director within two weeks of the season's end.
Maintain a professional appearance and act as a positive role model.
Refrain from tobacco or alcohol use in sight of players, spectators, or during practices and contests.
Develop and monitor academic improvement plans for athletic participants.
Develop and implement a school calendar for athlete engagement and development throughout the year.
Ensure facilities meet quality standards during all phases of the season.
Develop and distribute an athletic handbook and conduct parent meetings annually and as needed.
