Manager, Cloud Engineer
The Cloud Engineer Manager will serve as a hands-on technical leader responsible for architecting, automating, and optimizing cloud infrastructure across hybrid environments. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, managing a team of cloud engineers in designing and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance cloud solutions. The ideal candidate will be passionate about cloud technologies, infrastructure as code, and mentoring engineers in advanced cloud practices. Duties and Responsibilities: Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native and hybrid architectures using AWS, Azure, and VMware. Drive infrastructure automation using tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines. Coach and guide cloud engineers in advanced cloud technologies, DevOps practices, and performance tuning. Conduct architectural reviews, proof-of-concepts, and deep technical evaluations of cloud services. Oversee cloud performance monitoring, cost optimization, and disaster recovery planning. Manage Cloud Engineers providing support for Microsoft 365 products, including Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams. Coordinate security vulnerability remediation efforts for cloud-based infrastructure. Assist in implementing BCDR and failover systems. Review and recommend improvements to operational processes and procedures. Create scripts to assist with managing the cloud hosting infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Azure, VMware). Collaborate with development and security teams to ensure secure and efficient application deployment. Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and evaluate their applicability to business needs. Lead incident response and root cause analysis for cloud infrastructure issues. Support strategic planning and roadmap development for cloud infrastructure initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Skills: Ability to support the monitoring of performance including SLAs and metrics. Ability to define processes, SOPs, and identify effectiveness and efficiency improvements. Practical knowledge of agile development processes. Ability to think strategically. Efficient communication and organizational skills. Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated proficiency in methodical troubleshooting to provide resolution to incidents. Education & Experience Requirements: 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering or infrastructure roles, including 4+ years in a technical leadership capacity. Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), virtualization (VMware), and container orchestration (Kubernetes, EKS, AKS). Ability to lead technical teams, conduct performance reviews, and drive engineering excellence. At least 5 years systems engineering experience with Windows and/or Linux environments. Proficiency in infrastructure as code, scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash), and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, etc.) 3+ years working and collaborating with Quality Assurance and Operations teams. Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor), logging, and alerting systems. Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Experience managing and troubleshooting Microsoft 365 products, such as Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams. Strong knowledge of web servers including Apache, Tomcat, and nginx. Advanced knowledge of Cloud Platforms (Hybrid Clouds, IAAS, PAAS and SAAS). General knowledge of managed cloud databases (e.g. Amazon RDS and Azure Managed Databases).
