The Buyer is responsible for managing all MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) and services procurement to support the site's operations. This role focuses on purchasing materials, tools, and services necessary to maintain smooth operations. The Buyer will be responsible for researching, selecting, negotiating with vendors, and placing purchase orders in response to service or material requirements. Additionally, the Buyer will ensure compliance with various standards and procedures, manage supplier relationships, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives. Act as the key contact between operations and the supply base. Review, identify, and resolve any supplier-related issues impacting the site. Maintain a balance between customer, employee, and financial satisfaction by maximizing the facility's Performance Indicators in alignment with Linamar's Stepping Stool of Success Strategy. Purchase general and specialized equipment, materials, and services required for operations or further processing. Assess requirements and develop specifications for items to be purchased. Invite tenders, consult with suppliers, review quotations, and negotiate contract terms and conditions. Award supplier contracts or recommend contract awards based on evaluation. Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress, and resolve issues by liaising with clients and suppliers. Expedite orders as necessary. Improve computerized tool inventory control systems and assist in planning and achieving cost reduction goals. Monitor and maintain supplier performance and provide follow-up on purchased items. Issue and maintain records of purchases, suppliers, and contracts. Ensure all procurement processes adhere to established purchasing procedures. Collaborate with team members, controllers, and other buyers to ensure effective forecasting, inventory management, and alignment with Linamar's sales strategies and budgets. Perform other tasks/duties as assigned. A college diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or equivalent expertise gained through professional experience, training, or certifications. A minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, ideally in an MRO or services purchasing role. Strong negotiation skills to effectively work with suppliers and resolve disputes. Strong mathematical understanding and ability to compare costs of purchasing options, including prices, discounts, shipping charges, customs fees, and currency exchange rates. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with co-workers, customers, and suppliers regarding operational matters and contract negotiations. Ability to judge the quality of products and evaluate the quality of services provided by suppliers. Proficient in sourcing and analyzing data from various documents such as invoices, shipping receipts, and product information sheets. Familiar with using this data for tracking and decision-making. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a team setting to ensure proper forecasting, product distribution, and inventory management. Experience with IFS/MRP systems, as well as proficiency in using computer applications and communications software to track inventory, manage ordering schedules, and calculate purchasing costs.
