Coordinates all infection prevention activities related to surveillance, performance improvement, and education to ensure that the facility's patients, personnel, and visitors are protected from transmission of diseases and infections within the environment, as outlined by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) core competency model.
Oversees daily operations of the Infection Prevention Department, ensuring compliance with Hospital Accreditation Standards, State, and CMS regulations. Updates the Infection Prevention Program as new regulations or guidelines are published. Acts as the content expert on infection prevention, supporting clinical staff, performance improvement teams, and hospital committees.
Develops and assesses programs, policies, procedures, and forms to meet the infection prevention needs of all staff, volunteers, contractors, physicians, and students, in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Collaborates with Hospital Administration to develop and manage an Infection Prevention Program aligned with the facility's strategic plan, goals, and risk assessments.
Provides expert consultation and education on Infection Prevention. Develops and implements the program's annual risk assessments, plans, and evaluations, updating the program as necessary based on new regulations or guidelines.
Ensures all functions of the Infection Prevention Program are conducted, including surveillance, rounds across inpatient and outpatient units, and mandatory reporting to health authorities and databases such as NHSN, CMS, etc.
Maintains current knowledge of infection prevention guidelines, best practices, and regulatory requirements through conferences, literature review, and networking with professionals.
Required :
Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field with 5 years of experience or an Associate's degree with 7 years of experience. Additionally, three years of experience as an Infection Preventionist in an acute care setting.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), to be obtained within the first two years of employment.
Preferred :
RN Licensure is preferred.
