Job Summary: The Performance Improvement Coordinator manages all aspects of the Trauma Department's Performance Improvement Program. The Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and evaluating performance for the Trauma Program, working closely with the Trauma Registry to ensure accurate data collection and identification of improvement opportunities. The role involves collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Registrars, and other disciplines to review performance and safety, coordinate evaluations, promote loop closure, and enhance clinical outcomes. The Coordinator must meet regulatory and accreditation standards for performance improvement and patient safety for a Level I trauma program.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate the Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Program in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager.
Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the Trauma Team and Program.
Review patient hospital records to ensure compliance with care protocols, policies, and procedures throughout the trauma care continuum.
Abstract PI/QA data from hospital records for entry into the Trauma Registry.
Ensure completion of peer review and PI/QA follow-up by hospital departments.
Prepare and report Trauma Department PI/QA data for meetings.
Analyze PI/QA data, interpret trends, and prepare reports for committees.
Maintain PI/QA data, peer review results, and follow-up documentation in the Trauma Registry.
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory and accrediting standards for a Level I trauma program.
Qualifications/Requirements:
3-5 years' experience in ER or Critical Care caring for trauma patients at a Trauma Center, or a minimum of 2 years as a Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator.
Clinical experience as a Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant with NY licensure; Master's degree preferred, Bachelor's required.
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, TCRN, CFRN, CCRN, or CEN preferred.
Knowledge of Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), ICD-10, AIS coding, and performance improvement processes.
