Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after reviewing the application. To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Existing VA physicians who initially qualified under previous standards are deemed to meet current requirements. Basic Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy. Degree: Doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school. Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S. Residency: Completion of approved residency training leading to board eligibility, including ACGME, AOA, or equivalent programs with verified practice experience. Residents: Enrolled residents may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and will perform duties under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board certification in Gastroenterology.
