Position Summary
The Accounting Manager will lead the daily operations of the finance department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP standards, and alignment with organizational goals. This role is pivotal in managing accounting functions, supporting audits, and collaborating across departments to maintain financial integrity and transparency.
Position Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash receipts. Lead the monthly close process and prepare accurate financial statements for internal and external stakeholders. Monitor banking activity and prepare cash position reports. Ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations, including fixed assets, prepaid expenses, pledges, benefits, and accruals. Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely resolution of issues. Supervise finance staff, providing coaching, feedback, and performance monitoring. Collaborate with program and development teams to align financial reporting with grant and contract requirements. Coordinate and support annual audits and preparation of Form 990. Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Provide financial training and support to non-finance staff. Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate integrity consistent with the organization’s mission.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred. · Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or human services organization. · Experience with Sage Intacct and Ramp is strongly preferred. · Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookup). · Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with a commitment to continuous improvement. · Ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial audiences. · Experience with audit preparation and grant compliance. · Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. · Must pass a criminal background check and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (unless exempted). · Reliable transportation is required for occasional site visits.
