This is a six month contract-to-hire role located on-site in Reading, PA. Only applicants able to commute or willing to relocate will be considered.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and deployment of APIs using
Apigee Edge, Apigee X, and Apigee Hybrid , ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards. Architect, install, and manage the
Apigee Hybrid runtime on Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, or OpenShift) , including control plane integration, networking, and security configurations. Drive
capacity planning and infrastructure sizing
for Apigee Hybrid clusters based on projected API traffic, availability zones, and IP/CIDR allocations. Configure and manage
API policies
for traffic management, transformation, caching, and advanced security (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, threat protection). Implement and enforce API governance standards, environment group strategies, and proxy design conventions. Support the
full API lifecycle -
from design and mocking to publishing, testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and deprecation. Integrate with
CI/CD pipelines
(e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) for API bundle deployments, shared flows, and environment-specific configuration promotion. Develop and maintain
shared flows and reusable proxy patterns
for authentication, logging, error handling, and traffic control. Monitor and troubleshoot platform issues using
Kubernetes tools (kubectl, helm)
and integrate with observability platforms (e.g., Cloud Ops, Prometheus, ELK). Collaborate with backend teams, security teams, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless API adoption and runtime stability. Provide technical leadership, documentation, and mentorship to development and platform engineering teams. Qualifications Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 8+ years of experience. Strong hands-on experience in
API design and proxy development
using
Apigee Edge, X, and/or Hybrid . Solid understanding of
REST, JSON, XML , and modern API security patterns (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, SAML/SSO). Experience deploying and operating applications on
Kubernetes -
with knowledge of
pods, services, namespaces, helm, IP/CIDR planning, and cluster sizing . Proven experience working with
DevOps and automation tools
(e.g., Maven, Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions). Exposure to
backend integration patterns
with systems such as microservices, and legacy systems. Preferred Skills Experience with
Apigee Hybrid infrastructure setup
on GKE, EKS, or OpenShift, including network design, high availability, and TLS configuration. Familiarity with
Cassandra
(for Apigee Hybrid runtime),
cluster scaling strategies , and
troubleshooting synchronization or runtime issues . Working knowledge of
log management and observability solutions
(e.g., Fluent Bit, Splunk, ELK, or Google Cloud Logging). Exposure to
multi-region or hybrid cloud deployments , and knowledge of best practices around
IP address planning and firewalling for hybrid environments . Understanding of
developer portal integrations , API onboarding workflows, and developer experience strategies.
