What you will be doing in the role of a Project Manager, Applied Research & Evaluation
The Project Manager, Applied Research & Evaluation is a member of the Applied Research & Evaluation (ARE) team within Komen’s Mission division. The ARE team supports Komen’s role as an evidence-based organization by transforming data into meaningful intelligence that will guide program strategy, convey Komen’s impact, and contribute to the body of scientific evidence about breast cancer.
Apply project management expertise to all aspects of ARE team projects to ensure critical workstreams are advanced. Manage and oversee complex administrative functions of ARE projects including work plans, project estimates, workflow, budget, and general operations. Perform a broad range of administrative activities including scheduling and meeting planning, document creation, data entry, budget creation and reconciliation, and other activities using Microsoft products, Asana, and other software. Work collaboratively across Komen departments to support revenue generation and donor stewardship by ensuring the timely production of reports, presentations, and other deliverables. Promote an organizational culture that values trust, commitment to the mission, data integrity, and professional and organizational growth.
What You Will Bring To The Table
Applies project management expertise to all aspects of Komen’s ARE activities to ensure timeliness of workstreams and to meet organizational goals Works across the ARE team to manage projects of various scopes related to evaluation of community health, research, and public policy programs and applied research. Coordinate with stakeholders across Komen in various departments, and at times, external consultants, and other experts, to ensure progress of critical workstreams. Plan, manage, and oversee projects using recognized project management methodology including activities such as: Definition of project scope and objectives Project planning, including development of detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and budgets Assembling and launching the project team Deliverables management Scheduling regular team meetings to provide status reports to program stakeholders Augmenting project-related research, as requested Project administrative activities including but not limited to the project plan, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, interview and focus group session notes, and other required forms Maintain the project management tool(s), monitors deadlines, ensures completion of deliverables, and alerts team of pending due dates and delinquencies Identify and share project risks and challenges, and possible solutions, with appropriate stakeholders, team members and Sr. Director Identify and resolve problems across the project and project team(s) Consistently communicate progress to and effectively escalate problems or conflicts, as needed, to Sr. Director Assist with managing vendor contracts for ARE team Support the publication and dissemination of ARE work Provide on-going status reports to stakeholders, team members and Senior Director Manages contributions of team members, partners, and other vendors to ensure timely progression of Komen’s Evaluation and Applied Research activities including high-quality deliverables Supports the operations of the ARE team, including meetings with external partners Develops Requests for Proposals/Applications, as appropriate Manages the solicitation, receipt and review of proposals/applications and ensures that scientific rigor is applied to all submitted applications/proposals Implements the contracting process and monitors progress of contracts/grants in accordance with Komen’s processe Oversee administrative functions of the Applied Research and Evaluation department Maintain calendar of appointments; manage recurring meetings; create presentations, and handle meeting logistics. Make independent decisions within established guidelines to provide support with planning, organizing, and scheduling Develop appropriate protocols and processes to support ARE team Ensure supported executives are prepared with all collateral and information for meetings, events, and travel including but not limited to board meetings, reports and/or presentations for the CEO Generate detailed agendas, correspondence, funding proposals, reports and other documents using Word and Power Point Contribute to the development of donor reports and other donor communications and stewardship activities as needed Liaise with Mission Operations IT and Legal as needed and as appropriate All other duties as assigned
We know you will have and be able to
5 – 7 years and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences, or Public Health Knowledge of the public health or biomedical research industry Must utilize active listening skills to ensure a full understanding of the situations are gathered for proper consistent feedback Shows sensitivity and compassion in working with patients and advocates who are facing life-threatening illness and potential loss of loved ones Ability to support budget processes such as forecasting, variance reporting and other related work Ability to effectively manage across a team Intermediate level of computer/technical skills Ability to manage a large, complex workflow with multiple deadlines, data points, and priorities Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously High degree of professionalism, maturity, business understanding and confidentiality

PMP or similar project management certification from a reputable source (e.g.: PIMI) is highly encouraged / preferred Master’s degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences, or Public Health is a plus Experience managing human subject research project and/or public health research is a plus

Approximate salary of $56,000 – $75,000/annually; exact compensation ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job level, internal equity and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's skills, experience and geographic location.
