Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Emergency Department Registered Nurse to provide specialized emergency care to pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence. This role requires expertise in pediatric assessment, family-centered care, and management of emergent conditions in a dedicated pediatric emergency setting within a Level I trauma center. The ideal candidate will be skilled in addressing the unique needs of pediatric patients and their families during medical emergencies.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

Licensure:

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of recent Pediatric Emergency Department experience.

Certifications:

BLS, ACLS, and PALS are typically required for this specialty.

Technical Skills:

Epic electronic medical record system experience is REQUIRED.

Travel Policy:

No local candidates within the facility's defined ineligible counties.

Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive assessments and triage of pediatric patients presenting with a wide range of medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions.

Provide emergency nursing care to pediatric patients across all acuity levels, from minor illnesses to critical trauma and medical emergencies.

Administer age-appropriate medications, perform pediatric IV insertion, and assist with procedures specific to pediatric emergency care.

Monitor and interpret pediatric vital signs, growth parameters, and developmental stages to provide appropriate care.

Provide family-centered care, including education, emotional support, and involving parents/guardians in the care process.

Collaborate effectively with pediatric emergency physicians, pediatric specialists, and multidisciplinary teams.

Utilize specialized pediatric equipment and emergency protocols.

Unit & Patient Population Details

Patient Population:

Pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence (typically 0-18 years) with emergent conditions.

Clinical Focus:

Pediatric assessment, respiratory distress, dehydration, febrile illnesses, trauma, child abuse evaluations, and behavioral health emergencies.

Care Environment:

Dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department within a Level I Trauma Center, designed specifically for children and families.

Typical Cases:

Asthma exacerbations, bronchiolitis, seizures, diabetic ketoacidosis, appendicitis, fractures, head injuries, and infectious diseases.

Technology:

Pediatric-specific monitoring equipment, Broselow tape for rapid weight-based medication dosing, pediatric resuscitation equipment, and child-friendly treatment areas.

Special Considerations:

Age-appropriate communication, pain assessment and management, and family involvement in all aspects of care.

Dress Code:

Navy blue scrubs required
