Unit NICU Level of NICU Level III # Beds 26 beds Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:2 1:1 Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, PALS, ACLS, NRP?) NRP, PALS, BLS Common diagnoses/Types of patients prenature- sepsis, surgical- gastroschesis, evas, vented rarely- nasal cpap, rare osciallatory Experience or 'Must have' skills 3 years of NICU experience, must have experience with the drips below, and have experience in a level 3 NICU Are RNs required to titrate drips? dopamine, dobutamine, versed, fentanyl Common titratable &/or set rate drips same as above Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge covers both NICU and peds- free of assignment, charge for days and nights Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios none Neonatologist in house 24/7? 24 hours in unit, as well as RT in unit 24 hours RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) Osciallators, nasal cpap, rare vents,(nitrous oxide rare-core staff to take) giraffes for bassinets Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Tele on the unit, RN to monitor the patients, open bay area with monitors Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 12 hour start at 7-730, self sechedule, manager blances it Weekend Requirements Every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday Holiday Requirements Yes, 1 major and 1 Minor Is there call or a standby requirement? none Floating Requirements First to float, to the Nursery and pediatrics (sister unit) Scrub Color/Dress Code Navy Unit/Departments specific orientation 1 day on the unit with a preceptor, and 6 hours in the nursery and 6 hours on pediatrics
