Position Overview
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurses for our Neuro Intensive Care Unit. This role demands expertise in managing critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in neuro-specific critical care and thrive in a collaborative team setting.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Licensure:
Active RN license (Compact or Tennessee-specific) in hand at time of submission. Pending licenses are not accepted.
Experience:
Travelers:
Minimum of 2 years
of recent Neuro ICU experience
plus
at least one completed travel assignment.
First-time Travelers:
Not accepted
unless they possess 3 years
of recent, direct Neuro ICU experience.
Travel Policy:
No local candidates within a 100-mile radius.
Key Responsibilities
Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, seizures, and post-operative neurosurgery.
Perform comprehensive neurological assessments, including Glasgow Coma Scale scoring and monitoring of motor/sensory function.
Manage advanced neuro-specific equipment and monitoring, such as intracranial pressure (ICP) monitors and external ventricular drains (EVDs).
Titrate vasoactive and sedative drips to maintain precise hemodynamic and neurological goals.
Closely monitor and respond to changes in patient status, anticipating and managing neuro-specific complications.
Collaborate effectively with neurologists, neurosurgeons, and a multidisciplinary team to implement individualized plans of care.
Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families during critical illness.
Unit & Patient Population Details
Patient Population:
Critically ill adult patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, strokes, intracranial hemorrhages, brain tumors, spinal surgeries, and complex seizure disorders.
Care Environment:
A specialized intensive care unit dedicated to the treatment of high-acuity neuro patients, utilizing advanced monitoring technology and evidence-based protocols.
Clinical Focus:
Management of intracranial pressure, cerebral perfusion pressure, neurological status monitoring, and prevention of secondary brain injury.
Typical Conditions:
Status epilepticus, subarachnoid hemorrhage, ischemic stroke requiring intervention, post-operative craniotomy care, and complex spinal surgery recovery.
Technology:
Advanced neurological monitoring systems, ventilators for neuro-specific ventilation strategies, and specialized equipment for managing critically ill neurological patients.
