POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Manager oversees core accounting operations including month-end close, accounts payable and receivable, audits and tax filings. This role ensures timely, accurate financial reporting and supports both regulatory and operational integrity through consistent process execution and improvement. The Accounting Manager supervises accounting staff and works closely with finance leadership.
Primary Responsibilities:
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
Perform full month-end close process, including recording deposits, depreciation, investments, prepaids, payroll and credit card transactions, payables, and monthly accruals, as well as performing bank and credit card reconciliations.
Ensure accurate and timely recordings into the accounting system and support the preparation of financial statements and reports. Over time, take on responsibility for compiling financial statements for review by the Director of Finance.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight Oversee A/P and A/R functions, including coding and approving credit card transactions, payable processing, and recording deposits.
Monitor transaction accuracy and ensure compliance with accounting policies and standards.
Tax Filings, Audits & Financial Admin Support Prepare required GE tax filings, 1099 Reporting, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Coordinate business registrations and compliance, including out-of-state registrations, unemployment, and payroll tax filings.
Prepare and compile documentation for the annual audits and Form 990; review draft financial statements and filings for accuracy.
Track and calculate staff incentive or bonus payments in collaboration with HR.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements: Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
Proficiency with accounting software (experience with CYMA and Bill.com )
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational and time management abilities
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to lead and develop staff in a collaborative team environment
Ability to work harmoniously with a broad range of staff, volunteers, and the community as a representative of Navian Hawaii.
Consistently demonstrates ethical conduct and judgment that is in harmony with the mission and values of Navian Hawaii
Experience and Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience
Experience with nonprofit accounting and audit preparation
Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and overall computer skills. GL software knowledge .
Is knowledgeable of and maintains HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality.
Working Conditions: Indoors in an air-conditioned office / work from home
Equipment Used: Operates phone system, computer (Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, EMR Platform, Bill.com, Cyma Accounting Software and other platforms accordingly), calculator, copier, and facsimile.
Access to reliable transportation for bank deposits.
