Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Registered Nurse to provide expert care for high-acuity postoperative cardiac and vascular surgery patients. This role requires a clinician with advanced hemodynamic monitoring skills and experience in a Level I trauma center environment. The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing complex critical care patients and thrive in a fast-paced, technologically advanced ICU.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Licensure:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of recent staff CVICU experience.
Level I Trauma Center experience is required.
Technical Skills:
Epic electronic medical record system experience is REQUIRED.
Competency:
Must complete a mandatory competency test within 24 hours of submission.
Travel Policy:
No local candidates within the facility's defined ineligible counties.
Key Responsibilities
Provide advanced nursing care to immediate postoperative cardiac and vascular surgery patients, including those with coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements, and aortic repairs.
Manage high-acuity patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring (e.g., Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines).
Titrate vasoactive and inotropic drips to maintain precise hemodynamic goals.
Operate and manage specialized cardiac equipment, including ventilators, temporary pacemakers, and spinal drains.
Perform continuous ECG interpretation and monitoring, responding promptly to dysrhythmias.
Collaborate effectively with cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, and a multidisciplinary team to implement individualized plans of care.
Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families during the critical postoperative period.
Unit & Patient Population Details
Patient Population:
Critically ill adults status-post complex cardiac and vascular surgeries, requiring intensive hemodynamic monitoring and support.
Clinical Focus:
Postoperative critical care, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, dysrhythmia management, and titration of high-risk IV medications.
Care Environment:
Level I Trauma Center with state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring technology and specialized CVICU protocols.
Typical Conditions:
Post-op CABG, valve surgery, aortic dissection repair, heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and complex vascular surgeries.
Technology:
Advanced cardiac monitoring systems, ventilators, temporary pacing, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), Impella devices, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).

Navy blue scrubs required
