Job Description
Michelle Espejo with Robert Half Finance & Accounting is recruiting for a CFO on behalf of a private, mission-driven family office based in Marin County. This is a full-time, permanent role with a hybrid schedule, supporting two generations across multiple households. The family is known for their philanthropic leadership, civic involvement, and strong commitment to the community. Their office offers a warm, collaborative culture with a healthy work-life balance and a deep appreciation for each team member's contributions. This is a rare opportunity to join at a key moment. The office is bringing financial and tax operations in-house after years of outsourcing and is seeking a hands-on Controller to help build and lead this next chapter. You'll play a central role in shaping internal systems, driving financial strategy, and making a long-term impact in a highly trusted environment. Responsibilities
Oversee all internal financial operations, including accounting, bill pay, banking, and tax functions across entities and households. Design and implement efficient systems and workflows to support future growth. Manage bill payments and cash flow while maintaining strong relationships with vendors and service providers. Prepare financial statements, track budgets, and deliver clear reporting to support family decision-making. Manage tax planning and compliance—individual, trust, and partnership filings included. Maintain insurance coverage, oversee renewals, and keep entity/legal documentation up to date. Partner closely with the Family Office President on daily priorities and key initiatives. Please contact Michelle Espejo via LinkedIn or email for additional info and immediate consideration. Requirements
10+ years of family office experience Tax background (NO exceptions) CPA preferred Experience running A-Z of finance and accounting for a startup office Strong knowledge of accounting and tax for high-net-worth individuals and multiple entities Experience working with outside advisors, tax preparers, household staff, and legal teams Organized, trustworthy, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities Proactive and service-oriented with excellent communication skills Interested or just curious?
