Network Architect
The Network Architect will design, troubleshoot, and analyze LAN/WAN, cloud network, and VoIP infrastructures with specific emphasis on network integration and architectural designs. The Network Architect will leverage their substantial expertise in LAN/WAN and cloud architecture and design to support customers stateside, global, and branch offices. Duties and Responsibilities: Identifies, analyzes, troubleshoots, resolves, network related issues and maintains network-related devices. Designs and deploys managed LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, Network Access Control Systems (NAC) to ensure consistent availability for any and all customer services including cloud-based technologies. Regularly audit network configuration to ensure it is operating to design specifications. Provides highest level escalation support to Network and IT support engineers for all network and voice issues including but not limited to ensuring all network devices are monitored and maintained correctly, switch port provisioning, firewall configuration, and network troubleshooting. Ensures timely customer status updates of ongoing issues via phone, email and/or ticket notes. Performs primary network system administration on network devices as needed. Uses established tracking system to log requests; monitor progress, track problem resolution, identify patterns of failure, research bug fixes and implements solutions; communicates with manager regarding unresolved problems. Works with vendors to resolve hardware operating system issues; researches and tests possible solutions and implements solutions. Communicates with telephone company vendors, hardware vendors, software vendors and various IT teams and Tier III support as required to efficiently and effectively assess, troubleshoot and resolve issues. Determines which network equipment and solutions are required to best meet customer goals. Advises on what network operating system versions and configurations should be implemented to ensure customer networks operate efficiently and securely. Evaluates new and emerging technologies: Evaluates and tests new network systems and hardware by vendors; works with other IT units on proposed technologies and develops systematic processes between the various groups to ensure that any proposed systems are compatible with network architecture and integration techniques. Designs and deploys managed LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, UPSs, and other hardware. Coordinates upgrades and changes with business entities and other IT infrastructure groups; opens work tickets and provides migrations and/or installations as the business requires; gathering and/or coordinating resources from other IT Units when necessary to complete project deadlines; reviews project specifications and makes design and implementation recommendations for improvements; follows through on assigned project tasks and consultations/conference calls; monitors the incident queue and takes ownership of issues needing resolution. Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, etc. Drafts new or updates existing network operations policy and procedure documentation as required by job duties. Skills: Strong network management skills and experience managing rollouts and projects. Ability to listen and communicate information effectively with a diverse client and vendor base at all levels of skill and deliver customer support both in-person and over the phone in a professional manner. Ability to support enterprise objectives by training others in use of their computers and application. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and accuracy in work; and time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or on a team and meet deadlines Strong troubleshooting skills Excellent customer service skills. Excellent verbal & written communication Education & Experience Requirements: 4 years or more IT experience with comprehensive knowledge in a variety of network infrastructure components including virtualization, routers/hubs, switches, firewalls, cloud networking concepts (e.g. AWS and Azure), WAP, system monitoring tools. Knowledge of Cisco ISE, F5 load-balancers, Cisco and/or Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco NAC, Cisco Nexus, MPLS, Wireless, as well as network monitoring systems such as SolarWinds. Prior experience working with network and telecom service and equipment vendors. Intermediate knowledge of VoIP. Ability to identify, analyze and troubleshoot a wide range of complex technical network-related problems effectively. Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of various infrastructure-related systems, including local area networks and wide area networks; the principles of information systems design, especially related to multi-protocol, multi-platform client/server environments; principles and practices of networking technologies; thorough understanding of LAN/WAN protocols; theory and practice of LAN/WAN administration. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to configure, maintain, and network operating systems. Ability to analyze logs to identify problems and perform root cause analysis. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply system performance monitoring. Ability to learn and provide support for the corporate network and apply new technical knowledge quickly. Possesses working knowledge in at least one technical area, addressing and resolving problems with some guidance and support.
