Description

The Senior Data Center Project Manager is a strategic leader responsible for the successful execution of Wheelers scope in a massive data center project located in Millard County, UT. This facility will consist of several buildings, each with extensive power generation infrastructure. While not the general contractor erecting the buildings, Wheeler will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the buildings are designed and constructed to accommodate the many power generation systems. This manager will ultimately be responsible for the project being executed with high-quality, on-time, and on-budget.

This manager must be on-site at the project in Millard County, UT each day to oversee the procurement, installation, and commissioning of all power equipment, coordinating closely with Wheelers internal teams, the general contractor, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractors and other trades, suppliers, and commissioning disciplines. A significant component of this role includes developing and executing a plan to hire, train, and develop additional installers and commissioning agents as necessary and ensure they perform as expected. The role demands a high level of organization, problem-solving, and communication, with a strong commitment to safety and quality. Proficiency in project management software (Procore, MS Project) and adherence to Wheelers processes are essential.

Duties And Responsibilities

Lead the planning and execution of Wheelers scope across all buildings of the data center project. Develop and manage detailed project schedules, including task dependencies and resource requirements, in collaboration with Wheeler management, suppliers, contractors, partners, and customer. Coordinate with the building general contractor and other stakeholders to ensure building designs and pace of execution support Wheelers power infrastructure needs and schedules (e.g. concrete pads must poured before generators can be set in place) and customer expectations. Supervise direct reports including several team-leads (technical experts in a player-coach role working and overseeing approx. 8 12 technicians who will be executing the installation and commissioning work in each generation lineup), procurement specialists, and inventory/yard personnel. With Wheeler management, develop and execute a plan to hire, train, and develop additional installers and commissioning agents as necessary and ensure they perform as expected. Drive continuous improvement through process improvement and the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other key documentation. Ensure all project activities meet Wheelers standards for safety, quality, timeliness, and budget. Utilize Procore and other project management tools and ensure all contractors effectively use these tools to track progress, manage documentation, and facilitate communication. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments (sales, service, etc.) and external partners (suppliers, contractors, customers). Provide regular updates and performance reports to senior leadership, including KPIs and action plans regarding quality, timeliness, and budget adherence.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in technical field (e.g., engineering, construction management). Minimum of 7 years of experience managing complex, multi-million-dollar construction projects. Proven experience in energy and electric power generation projects. Demonstrated ability to work with and manage contractors, especially electrical contractors. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Proficiency with project management software, especially Procore.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in business administration (MBA), construction management, or a related technical field. Experience with data center construction and commissioning. Familiarity with large-scale generation systems and integration into building infrastructure. Experience working with general contractors and coordinating across multiple trades.
