Asbestos Laboratory Supervisor for the AIH laboratory.

The candidate should be self-motivated, with excellent time management skills. The ideal candidate will have 2 to 4 years experience in the analyses and reporting of bulk samples of building materials for asbestos content using Polarized Light Microscopy. Must have advance lab experience and be proficient in common lab procedures. Must be able to work with phase contrast and light microscopes, analytical balances, biological safety cabinets, filtration manifolds, and must be able to adhere to sterile technique and good lab practices. Must be able to enumerate, identify and confirm a wide variety of fungi/microbes etc. Key Responsibilities Position will be responsible for microbiology and food microbiology laboratory sample preparation and analysis including but not limited to: Classical and advanced methods for microbial and bioaerosol analysis Independently receive, log-in, prep, analyze, and report bulk building material samples Communicate effectively with staff Oversee delivery of quality products Maintaining a laboratory facility in support of a group of scientists (e.g. identifying and ordering supplies, cleaning and routine maintenance of lab ware) Sample preparation and curation of rock and mineral samples Analysis of samples by wet chemistry, mass spectrometry and other techniques Data reduction with custom tools and MS excel Maintaining the QA/QC Program and Standard Operating Procedures. Document QC weekly in excel sheet Must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis Conduct and document all training including new employee orientation, Health and Safety, and QC Perform duties as assigned by the laboratory president or directors. Maintain daily work activity, observations, solutions, discrepancies, suggestions / concerns and error logs in a note book. Provide summary of findings to director on a monthly basis via email. Must be able upto lift 40 lbs. Role Requirements Bachelors Degree 2 to 5 years related experience Formal training in Asbestos Identification Using Polarized Light Microscopy (McCrone course(s) or equivalent). Detailed knowledge of EPA 600/R-93/116 (PLM), EPA 600/R-93/116 (PLM Point Count), and EPA 600/M4-82-020 (PLM) analytical methods. Certification for Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Dust (Air Samples using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) NIOSH 7400 Method) is preferred (NIOSH 582 or equivalent course).
