The Northwell Health Cancer Institute, with the support of Northwell Health Executive Leadership, invites applications and nominations for the System Head, Classical Hematology at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. Working closely with the System Chief Hematologic Malignancies and the Deputy Physician in Chief of Medical Oncology, this leader will advance the clinical, research, and teaching mission of classical hematology to ensure an integrated and unified approach to patient care throughout an expansive network spanning New York City, Long Island and Westchester County. In this fashion, the System Head of Classical Hematology will support best in class, comprehensive care through standardization, program development and the advancement of innovation through research.

About the Northwell Health Cancer Institute
Northwell Health is one of the largest cancer care providers in the New York metropolitan area, diagnosing 19,000 cases and treating over 16,000 patients annually. The mission of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute is to provide high-quality, comprehensive cancer care in a coordinated, multidisciplinary, and compassionate environment. The Cancer Institute is continuing its transformational growth and evolution, from a sophisticated community setting into a “hybrid cancer center,” combining the best of academic and community cancer care, consolidating previously existing cancer care services with a significant expansion of such services.
The Division of Hematology is part of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute, giving patients access to the services of more than 200 Cancer Institute physicians in more than 25 sub-specialties.
The Role
The Northwell Health Cancer Institute and Northwell Health Leadership seek an experienced and proven board-certified physician executive and leader to serve as the System Head of Classical Hematology. Reporting to the Deputy Physician-in-Chief Dr. Richard Carvajal, this leader will be charged with articulating a vision and corresponding plan that fits within the overall Cancer Institute’s strategic plan that will result in being viewed nationally as a leader in clinical care, research, and education. The System Head will be well positioned to build upon a strong research infrastructure to ensure the program is on the precipice of scientific discovery promotion, innovations and leading-edge clinical and translational research.

Direct Reports: 13 Hematologists
Partners with: Deputy Physician in Chief, Radiation Medicine; Deputy Physician in Chief, Surgical Oncology; 65+ Hematologists and Medical Oncologists
Candidate Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications and experience:
Education and Experience
M.D. Degree or equivalent from an accredited College of Medicine.
Experience as a department or division head, preferably in a major medical center or health system.
Experience teaching residents and medical students.
Nationally recognized clinical, basic and/or translational research program with an established record of publication in high impact journals.
Outstanding communication and management skills, and an ability to work collaboratively with medical staff, hospital management, and staff.
Capabilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish credibility quickly, build rapport, and easily interact with clinical and administrative leadership, as well as physicians and staff throughout Northwell Health.
Proven ability to cultivate strong relationships with various stakeholders and create an environment that fosters collaboration and trust.
Ability to exert influence and drive outcomes among individuals with whom you do not have formal authority or reporting relationship.
Exceptional presentation skills and a high degree of poise when interacting with internal and external senior leaders.
Business acumen to understand Northwell Health’s operating environment, including competition and trends that could influence the organization’s success.
Ability to ensure program targets are met on time and on budget.
Desire to train the next generation of physicians.
