Road & Rail Services Director of Operations - Mechanical The basic purpose of position: Provide complete management oversight for assigned areas of responsibility. Expectation: We expect our Director of Operations to be committed to a high standard of safety, to comply with all safety policies/procedures and willing to report violations and potential safety issues to the appropriate personnel. We expect all Directors of Operations to employ an "out front" approach to management. Directors of Operations should spend the majority of their time working at/with the sites they have responsibility for. Their focus must be meeting the company and customer's expectations by ensuring our associates are performing their work safely and correctly. The Director of Operations must be an effective communicator, leader, and mentor. Requirements: 5+ years' experience in Mechanical site operations management Multi-site Management experience preferred Experience mentoring, coaching, & developing subordinates Welding certification Experienced leading 10 or more direct reports Experienced in delivering results through others Recruiting, hiring, training, retaining, and development of Organizational talent Management of KPI metrics Accountability P&L Management Hands on leadership Knowledge and understanding of OSHA, EPA, FRA, and DOT regulations and policies Commitment to safety Conflict resolution Effective communications Development and implementation of process improvement opportunities Works effectively under stress Responsibilities: Embody the Ethical practices and Core Principles of the Company; Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance within the scope of duties; included but not limited to hire, fire, promotions or other changes in employee status; Perform work directly related to the management or general business operations of the Company or its customers; Ensuring site compliance with all applicable Company, Customer, OSHA, EPA, FRA and DOT regulations by performing quality assurance audits and relevant inspections. These are included but not limited to AAR, ISA, ISO, OEM, etc... Ensuring that all accidents and injuries are promptly reported and properly documented; Ensuring all incidents are investigated; investigations are properly documented and reported via the company incident reporting system in a timely manner. Ensure appropriate discipline is administered; implement procedures to prevent a recurrence; Continually seek and document methods for improvement in the quality of the services being provided and the efficiency in which those services are conducted; Establishing and maintaining contact with the customer(s) to ensure we are meeting the customers' expectations; Managing site performance relative to financial and productivity goals, developing, implementing and monitoring corrective actions where appropriate; P&L budgeting and reporting; Identifying and communicating potential upcoming capital expenditures; Setting and monitoring specific developmental and performance goals for subordinates; Managing site staffing and training. Education Requirements: High School Diploma/GED, 4-year college degree preferred. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for college education. Skills, Licenses, Certification, and/or Special Training: Must maintain a valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment. Meet and maintain all requirements contained in the Conditions of Employment policy. Physical, Mental & Sensory Requirements: Ability to travel by all forms of commercial conveyance with some overnight travel up to 50% of total workdays; Ability to frequently work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions; Ability to occasionally ascend or descend ladders, stairs and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Ability to use bending, twisting, walking motions on uneven to include crouching for periods of time up to 1 minute; Ability to lift objects or move objects horizontally. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Ability to occasionally stand and walk for periods of time greater than 2 hours; Must be able to hear and communicate work or safety instructions spoken in a normal voice; Must have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or other equipment; Ability to communicate using various types of equipment as well as view and change data on a standard computer for periods of time greater than 1 hour daily; Must be able to work independently and to simultaneously handle multiple tasks; Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
