The StopLoss business represents a $300M+ portfolio within Optum Financial, characterized by high complexity and strategic importance. As part of Optum Financials commitment to delivering innovative and resilient financial solutions, this role plays a critical part in driving operational excellence and financial integrity across the portfolio. The Financial Consultant will support efforts to enhance forecasting accuracy, streamline SG&A, and enable real-time decision-making in collaboration with actuarial, sales, and leadership teams. This position is integral to aligning financial strategy with Optums broader goals of affordability, accessibility, and improved outcomes. This position follows a hybrid schedule with four in-office days per week (MN), three in-office days per week (NY). Primary Responsibilities:
Lead financial oversight for the StopLoss portfolio, including forecasting, variance analysis, and strategic planning Collaborate closely with actuarial, sales, and leadership teams to drive real-time decision-making Deliver clear, actionable reporting to senior leadership that highlights key financial drivers within the StopLoss portfolio and recommends strategic responses to emerging trends or risks Lead the development of financial narratives and presentation materials for month-end close and planning cycles, tailored for both internal leadership and external stakeholders, with a focus on the StopLoss portfolios performance and strategic direction Refine and build monthly and forecasting models to more accurately and effectively predict future outcomes Drive multiple forecasts per year where one will take into account macro trends, actuarial insight, and leadership goals Lead multiple forecasting cycles annually, incorporating macroeconomic trends, actuarial insights, and leadership objectives to deliver forward-looking financial guidance for the StopLoss portfolio Partner with actuarial and underwriting teams to analyze claims trends and loss ratios, translating complex data in actionable financial insights Youll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications:
BS/BA degree in Finance/Accounting or a related field 3+ years of experience performing financial and variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparing financial reports Financial modeling experience Experience with risk base products Advanced level of proficiency working with Excel Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with large data models Exposure to actuarial models Proven ability to clearly articulate complex financials Proven ability to problem solve including multiple priorities and research conflicting and/or inaccurate data Proven desire to take on the responsibilities that come with managing a P&L Proven to be self-motivated to work independently and be a team player At Optum Financial, weve built an organization around a singular mission: to make health care more affordable for everyone. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
