Overview

UAB Health System is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) during a period of significant growth and innovation. The COO will oversee the execution, coordination, and optimization of UAB Medicine’s delivery system, including UAB Hospital, the Kirklin Clinic, UAB St. Vincent’s network, and the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall management of UAB Medicine, aligning operational tactics with institutional priorities.
• Work closely with clinical, research, and business leadership to enhance outcomes, patient experience, and value.
• Drive operational efficiency, financial performance, patient satisfaction, and market growth.
• Participate in the strategic direction of the UAB Health System as a member of the executive leadership team.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Clinical Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in a large healthcare setting, preferably in an academic medical center or large community system.
• Experience managing complex, matrix-oriented hospital networks and ambulatory services.
• Proven success in system integration, electronic medical record implementation, and financial management.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams and effective stakeholder relationships.
