Land Planner / Project Manager – Long Range Planning
Sequence has been exclusively retained and is currently seeking a capable Land Planner / Project Manager with extensive planning and policy experience to undertake project management for municipal planning and urban design projects throughout California.
This is currently the most high-profile position of its kind in the region, a unique role with long-term job stability at one of the nation’s most respected mid-sized firm with a wealth of project efforts.
Reporting directly to senior leadership, the role is responsible for oversight and managing a variety of projects, including general plans, area plans, zoning code, and other policy and regulatory documents. The right individual would possess in-depth knowledge within one or more planning specialties (Long Range Planning, Policy/Advocacy, or planning-related code development, etc.).
The firm's typical efforts range from comprehensive/long-range planning to planning policy and zoning. An extensive amount of their efforts is tied to public outreach and engagement, focusing on blending visioning community engagement with deep-rooted understanding of policy to create tangible, implementable solutions. Ideally, this would include the ability to develop plans for utilization of land and physical facilities of cities, counties, and metropolitan areas – coupled with the aptitude to develop creative solutions to project issues.
The role includes project management and extensive coordination with multi-disciplinary personnel and sub-consultants to ensure design and planning services are executed. In addition to personal development and technical contributions to planning efforts, the position has extensive document and quality oversight of materials (technical reports, project narratives, and response letters for complex applications, etc.) of planning team members. So, beyond experience preparing and authoring various aspects of land use planning documents (existing conditions reports; developing land use alternatives; land use designations; policies; zoning code language; design standards, etc.) we are seeking an individual capable with project management, client engagement, and personnel management/mentorship.
Beyond planning experience and knowledge base, the position requires a deep understanding of planning processes and practices as well as public policy (local, state, and federal).
The ideal candidate would have five to seven (7 - 15+) plus years of experience and a bachelor's degree or advanced degrees in land use, urban, regional, or city planning, landscape architecture, geography, or related field required. Prior consulting or private sector experience a plus for consideration.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an innovative and creative organization and help grow their practice. A place where a motivated, self-starter interested in advancing their career and able/willing to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that is dominated by realistic expectations could find a long-term home. The role can be the ideal position for a senior-level professional to join a thriving organization that is stable and has a wealth of challenging initiatives. It could also be the right place for a talented mid- to senior- level professional with skills and experience who is now seeking to take on a challenge and step up in responsibility.
The position offers competitive compensation, bonuses, and a very strong benefits package, including health/vision/dental insurance, holiday/vacation, performance bonuses, 401k with match, life insurance, disability insurance, wellness programs, etc. Progression and other profit opportunities would also be available.
The position is slated to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area (Hybrid work schedule) but could potentially be based in the Los Angeles branch office. The organization would be open to relocating a capable professional into the area from another region of California (essentially anything of reason can be structured for the right individual).
