AI Engineer (Backend Focus)

Location: Hybrid/Boston

Employment Type: Full-time (No C2C, no sponsorship, USC or GC only. No OPT)

Our client is seeking a skilled AI Engineer with a strong software engineering background—particularly in backend development—to join their growing Data Science & AI team. This role focuses on developing and deploying production-ready AI applications, especially those using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and LLM technologies.

This position is ideal for a software engineer with experience building scalable AI systems, integrating vector databases, and collaborating closely with business stakeholders to drive value across investment and operational use cases. We are not looking for pure Data Science backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

• AI Development & Deployment: Build, fine-tune, and deploy LLM-based and RAG-enabled applications for a variety of business use cases.
• Backend Engineering: Develop robust APIs and services to support AI model integration into business workflows.
• Data Pipelines: Design data ingestion and preprocessing pipelines for training and inference.
• Optimization & Monitoring: Improve performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of AI applications in production environments.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with investment and business teams to gather requirements, align on goals, and communicate solutions clearly.
• Research & Innovation: Stay current with AI/ML advancements; explore and prototype new techniques and tools.
• Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior engineers and help standardize AI engineering best practices within the team.

• Proficient in Python for backend development and AI/ML model integration.
• Experience building and maintaining RAG applications using tools like Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar vector databases.
• Familiar with MLOps tools: CI/CD for ML, experiment tracking (e.g., MLflow, W&B), and deployment workflows.
• Strong background in data engineering and distributed systems for scalable processing.
• Experience with deploying traditional ML models (e.g., XGBoost, Scikit-learn).

• Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform.
• Experience with AI agentic systems and autonomous workflows.
• Basic understanding of frontend development (e.g., React) for AI-driven UI features.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field.
• Several years of experience delivering production-level AI systems—especially NLP or RAG-based solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Independent, proactive, and adaptable in fast-paced environments.
• Excellent communication skills; able to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven ability to lead initiatives and collaborate across teams.
