Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 1+ years (with possible extensions)
Rate: $50 - $55/hr on W2 with benefits

Notes: Hybrid at Thousand Oaks. Expectation is 3 days onsite per week.

The ideal candidate is a Data Scientist with a strong engineering background, preferably in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Chemical Engineering, with proven experience in simulation, modeling, and data analysis within a GMP-regulated environment. They should be proficient in Python, MATLAB, and Minitab, and possess a deep understanding of engineering principles applied to physical systems. The candidate holds either a PhD with no industry experience, a Master’s degree with at least 2 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience. They should be highly analytical, collaborative, and adaptable, capable of translating experimental data into actionable insights. Candidates with degrees in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or those with purely software-focused backgrounds, are not a fit for this role.

Job Description: The Digital Data Scientist will support the Combination Product Operations organization by improving data management and utilization to enhance analysis and decision-making. Responsibilities include developing and managing digital modeling assets, analyzing scientific and product performance data, and leveraging in-silico and data-driven modeling to evaluate opportunities for operational improvements.

The candidate should enjoy tackling challenges and excel at enabling insights for decision-making using data-driven and physics-based modeling. Key tasks include:

  • Applying engineering principles to develop in-silico models for combination products
  • Developing, enhancing, automating, and managing analytics and data-driven models
  • Performing ad-hoc analysis and supporting projects; providing input for trend and failure investigations
  • Demonstrating modeling and visualization approaches in proof-of-concept projects
  • Transforming ambiguous questions into measurable projects
  • Exploring new opportunities in in-silico and data-driven models for combination products

Skills:

  • Experience with programming in Python, MATLAB, JMP, and/or Minitab
  • Experience with model simulation and analysis techniques using software like ANSYS, LS-Dyna, ABAQUS, COMSOL
  • Experience with mathematical/first principles modeling, numerical techniques, and Monte Carlo simulations
  • Familiarity with GitLab for version control and collaboration
  • Data analysis expertise and statistical or mechanistic modeling experience
  • Ability to derive technical recommendations from data analysis
  • Strong communication and documentation skills; knowledge of process controls is a plus
  • Understanding business needs and developing practical solutions
  • Experience with medical device development and regulatory requirements

  • Bachelor's in Engineering + 5 years in simulation, modeling, data analysis
  • Master's in Science/Engineering + 2 years in relevant experience
  • Ph.D. in Science/Engineering with relevant experience

  • Programming in Python, MATLAB, JMP, Minitab
  • Model simulation and analysis using commercial software
  • Mathematical modeling, numerical techniques, Monte Carlo simulations
