CNA is seeking a Senior Actuarial Consultant to develop and recommend actuarial reserve strategies for CNA's Financial Lines business unit, supporting senior management in decision-making and strategy formulation.
This role involves overseeing reserving techniques for the Financial Lines product suite (D&O, Cyber, E&O, EPL), monitoring external trends, collaborating with business partners, and providing actuarial analyses and insights to influence reserving decisions.
The position offers a hybrid work schedule, typically 1 day per week at one of our CNA actuarial hub locations. Candidates may be hired into either Actuarial Consultant or Senior Actuarial Consultant roles, typically requiring 4-10+ years of related experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform complex actuarial calculations and studies to determine reserve recommendations, analyzing and developing tools as needed.
- Provide analyses to support reserving strategies and complete quarterly reviews.
- Build relationships with peers and business partners to influence strategy through insights and analytics.
- Monitor reserving and claim trends, sharing findings and recommendations.
- Ensure accuracy of financial reports, participate in financial close processes.
- Produce technical actuarial analyses and communicate findings effectively.
- Guide less experienced team members and manage projects.
- Stay updated on actuarial trends and facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Drive process innovation and maintain documentation of methods.

- Strong knowledge of insurance functions and actuarial concepts.
- Advanced technical expertise in actuarial and product-specific areas.

- Ability to exercise independent judgment and lead through change.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, R, SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, and related systems.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Typically 7+ years of related experience.
- ACAS designation, working towards FCAS, or attained FCAS.
Salary range in Illinois/New York/California: $97,000 to $185,000, based on experience and location. In certain jurisdictions, the range is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. CNA offers a comprehensive benefits package.
