Position Overview

We are seeking a Staff Accountant with 2-3 years of experience in general accounting to work as a full-cycle accountant, including accounts payable (AP) duties. The Staff Accountant will be based in San Francisco and work closely with the SVP, Finance to assist in preparing financial statements and tax filings. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in accounting principles, strong AP experience, and a proactive approach to financial operations.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage all aspects of accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist the Finance Director in preparing and analyzing financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and credit cards.
  • Inventory Accounting: Collaborate with operations and sales teams to track merchandise inventory and ensure accurate cost reporting.
  • Revenue Recognition: Ensure proper recording of merchandise sales transactions, refunds, and adjustments.
  • Tax Preparation: Support the Finance Director in preparing tax filings and gathering necessary documentation for tax compliance.
  • Compliance Audit: Assist with compliance reporting, external audits, and regulatory filings as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement efficiencies in financial and AP processes.

Accounts Payable (AP) :

  • Enter and process vendor invoices accurately and timely.
  • Manage invoice approvals and payment processing (ACH, wire, credit card, checks).
  • Ensure proper coding of invoices to correct accounts and departments.
  • Reconcile AP accounts and research discrepancies.
  • Maintain vendor records and respond to payment inquiries.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-3 years of general accounting experience, including AP processing.
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting principles, AP concepts, and tax preparation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Experience with inventory accounting and manufactured merchandise businesses is a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
