Base pay range

$90,000.00/yr - $115,000.00/yr

Position Summary:

The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the full-cycle accounting functions for a portfolio of multi-family properties. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the operational teams with financial insights. The ideal candidate will bring strong real estate accounting experience, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to accuracy and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of multi-family properties, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Review and analyze property-level income statements, balance sheets, and budget-to-actual variances.
  • Coordinate with property managers to ensure accurate recording of revenues, expenses, accruals, and capital expenditures.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, fixed asset schedules, and prepaid/amortization schedules.
  • Prepare and review CAM reconciliations, real estate tax calculations, and other tenant-related billings.
  • Assist with annual audits, tax filings, and lender compliance reporting.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for assigned properties.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies.
  • Mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on property accounting processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA track preferred.
  • 4+ years of property accounting experience, with at least 2 years in multi-family real estate preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Yardi, MRI, or similar property management/accounting software.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
