Technical Accounting & Reporting Manager

A global industry leader in multichannel marketing, print, and business communications is seeking a Technical Accounting & Reporting Manager to join their growing finance organization. This position offers high visibility and the opportunity to work on complex, technical accounting issues within a large-scale, international company.

About the Role

This hybrid position is based in downtown Chicago and plays a critical role in the company’s accounting function. You’ll serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP, overseeing key accounting areas like revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and business combinations. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with legal, tax, FP&A, and external auditors, while also preparing technical memos and helping guide accounting policy.

Key Responsibilities

• Review customer contracts for compliance with ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition)
• Oversee lease accounting practices under ASC 842
• Support goodwill impairment testing in accordance with ASC 350
• Analyze and advise on complex transactions including M&A, leasebacks, and derivatives
• Research and document accounting positions with clear technical memos
• Maintain and draft accounting policies; monitor and implement FASB pronouncements
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external auditors
• Participate in monthly and quarterly close activities, including account reconciliations
• Provide oversight and mentoring to junior team members

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (Master’s preferred)
• 6+ years of experience , including time in public accounting or technical accounting roles
• CPA strongly preferred
• Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ability to apply guidance across business scenarios
• Experience working in or with large, publicly traded companies
• Strong technical writing and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight deadlines
• Experience managing direct reports is a plus
