The Opportunity:
The Optical and Photonics Systems group of CACI is looking for candidates to help develop the next generation of optical technologies. These include free-space optical communications terminals and modems and high-power optical sources across the optical spectrum. The team has achieved significant successes, such as demonstrations on the International Space Station and establishing the current longest optical transmission range of over 19 million miles, as well as developing the Space Defense Agency’s standard laser communication terminal.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the system testing effort for programs developing new photonic technology and custom hardware for optical communications, remote sensing, RF photonics, and other applications.
- Create comprehensive test procedures at the system and subsystem levels and prepare detailed reports.
- Specify and coordinate the development of software tools for instrument control, data collection, and analysis.
- Design, modify, or develop test stands, equipment, and processes for specific programs.
- Conduct and coordinate off-site testing at specialized facilities, including radiation, shock, vibration, EMI/EMC tests.
Qualifications:
Required:
- US Citizenship
- Bachelor’s Degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field, with at least 5 years of related experience.
- Experience with fiber optics, fiber lasers, high-power bulk lasers, optical communications, free-space optical communications, nonlinear optics, ultrafast lasers, spectroscopy, or integrated photonics.
- Familiarity with optical testing equipment such as laser sources, OSA, power meters, PER meters.
- Knowledge of optical fiber splicing processes and equipment.
- Ability to develop automation software using LabVIEW, Python, or MATLAB.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Motivated, team-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically.
Desired:
- Master’s or PhD in related fields.
- Proficiency in lab automation software.
This position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately. Applicants may also be considered for other positions at CACI.

Pay Range

The proposed salary range is: $72,700 - $149,200.
